A prayer for the vacancy
God of vision and hope,
we thank you for all who have ministered here throughout the history of this church.
In this time of vacancy,
may we continue to grow in love,
share in responsibility,
and seek your vision for our future,
in the name of Jesus Christ,
our shepherd and our guide.
Amen.
Stewards who have experience either in the church kitchen or in cleaning are needed for July 26th 9am to 10.30am We have a very large group (around 270 students) from America visiting us next Saturday July 26th. I really need a few volunteers to help on the day. The students have their own leaders but we need to be around to offer drinks, sell souvenirs etc. and to clear and clean up afterwards by 11am in time for the Wedding taking place at 12 noon. Please contact me if you can help. Many thanks, Adrian0758 306 8934
Church Fete
A big thank you all supporting such a happy event on such a hot day. We raised a total of £1,415.61(and there will be Gift Aid to add to that). Well done! It was good to watch the Headington Quarry Morris Men and to enjoy some time together at a traditional summer fête. As you know, it’s the last one the current committee will organise, so it’s the end of an era and we’re glad a good amount was raised. Our thanks to Lisa & Mike Hill, Derek & Margaret Taylor, Linda & Howard Pearce and Janet Foot for all their years of service on the committee and for the monies raised.
Wood Farm Summer Fete takes place on Saturday 2 August 2pm – 4pm at the Wood Farm rec ground on Nuffield Road. There will be Bouncy Castles, Fire Eating, Fire Engine, Food Tent, Games, Facepainting, Crafts, and Performances – most things free. Please do come along to support this event, and if you think you might be able to contribute cake, please email Emily (curate@hthq.uk).
Holiday Club: Superheroes of the Bible takes place at Collinwood Road URC on 5, 6, 12 & 13 August from 10am to 1.30pm for children aged 5 to 11 years. £20 for four days (family discounts available). Prayer Partners project
This September, we want to celebrate the intergenerational community of our church and strengthen those links by matching prayer partners across the generations to look out for one another at church and to pray for them. We’re seeking sign ups from parents on behalf of their children/young people and from adults who would be interested in supporting a younger generation in prayer. To sign up for this scheme, go to https://forms.gle/29ptt6Qy9x3EiYri6. Please note: to keep numbers balanced we may not take up every offer this time, but appreciate every one.
New vicar announced
We are delighted to announce that the Revd Martin Little will be joining us as our new vicar from the autumn. He will be installed in mid-September and will be joining us from St John’s Highbridge in Bath and Wells Diocese where he currently serves. Please pray for him and his family as they prepare to move, and for the people of St John’s as they prepare to enter a vacancy.
Community Café every Tuesday 9.30 – 11.30am in the meeting room in church. An intergenerational space for parents/carers to spend time with their younger ones, meet up with people of all ages over a cup of tea/ coffee etc Toys available for preschool age children and toddlers.
Forest Sunday School will be having a break during the summer. See you in September!
This week’s Eco Tip
Although in winter you may need to use the tumble dryer or dry washing indoors, on a fine day why not hang the washing outside in the sun and breeze? It uses no electricity and creates no condensation Hilary Rollin, Eco Church Group.
