This week’s Eco Tip

More about fighting the cold without increasing your carbon footprint!  Avoid the misery of a burst hot water bottle in the early hours, the sorrow of a ruined mattress, and the environmental cost of replacing it. To check a hot water bottle’s age and date of manufacture, locate the ‘date daisy’ (the daisy wheel symbol on the bottle’s neck or body). The number in the centre is the year of manufacture; the 12 surrounding segments represent months, and dots within the petals indicate the week of manufacture. For safety, hot water bottles should be replaced every two years, or sooner if there are signs of wear and tear or cracks or deterioration.
