Martha Jackson Trust & The Coach House

In 1948 Martha Louise Jackson, who had been a long time member of Holy Trinity church, died and made a bequest in her will of a sum of money which was to be used:

  • “for the relief in need of persons resident in Headington Quarry and the neighbourhood thereof” and
  • “for such charitable purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of Headington Quarry and the neighbourhood thereof as the managing trustees from time to time think fit”.

The Jackson Trust is a registered charity of which the Vicar and Churchwardens are ex officio Trustees, along with other representatives of the local community.  In 1993 the Coach House was built with some of the money from the bequest as a way of providing a meeting space both for the church and for local residents; it is well used and enjoyed by both. The Trustees are responsible for the running of the Coach House and the administration of the remaining funds.

Although the maintenance and development of the Coach House is our main work these days, we continue to support people in need within the boundaries of the parish of Headington Quarry. The trustees meet three times a year to consider financial requests for help and give one-off grants.

We are pleased to support charities which are actively working with people within our parish,  local groups who are working on community projects within our parish area, and requests from individuals who have fallen on hard times or are facing a particular need.

Do you know anyone or any local group which could do with some support from the fund? Please write to the Martha Louise Jackson trust, c/o the Parish Office, 46 Quarry Rd, Headington Quarry. OX3 8NU
